Chris Pine, widely recognized for his stellar acting career, is now venturing into the world of children's literature. At 44, the acclaimed actor, who is the son of CHiPs star Robert Pine and actress-turned-psychotherapist Gwynne Gilford, is preparing to launch his first children's book, "When Digz the Dog Met Zurl the Squirrel," set to hit shelves on October 8.
In an interview with Parade, Pine shared that the inspiration for his book came from his two beloved rescue dogs.
The story introduces us to Digz the Dog, who is convinced he's the ruler of Ms. Pincher's garden. However, there's a twist—Zurl the Squirrel is equally sure she's the garden's queen. Naturally, as a dog and a squirrel, they're expected to be rivals. But Digz and Zurl have more in common than it seems. Digz, once a lonely pup at the shelter, and Zurl, with her own set of insecurities, discover during their encounter that they might not be so different after all.
In an interview with Parade, Chris shared, "It all began during the early days of quarantine when we were stuck at home, and my main activities were just hanging out with my dogs and taking them for walks. One day, I was out for a walk with a close friend in the depths of Altadena, California. My dog chased after a squirrel, and my friend remarked, 'Wouldn't it be a great story about a dog that falls in love with a squirrel?' That sparked the idea. I went home and started writing right away. I couldn't stop and ended up creating, I think, about seven or eight stories."
